RECENT RDR PROJECT: IN-LINE MOISTURE-REMOVING PRESSURE VESSELS
RDR’s ASME-Certified Piping & Mechanical Division is building desiccant vessels or “dryers” to customer specs. These custom-fabricated vessels are designed to remove water vapor from natural gas before it enters the customer’s main transmission line.
ABOUT DESICCANT PRESSURE VESSELS
Desiccant vessels are typically used in natural gas pipeline systems. These vessels, often called gas dehydration units/bottles or dryers, typically contain desiccant bead beds that are precisely set at bed depths to match desired dehydration capacity.
The exact size of a desiccant pressure vessel depends on the flow rate, pressure and moisture content of the gas. Vertical vessels are common. Noting that height is often determined by the depth of the desiccant bed, typical diameter sizes include:
- Lower flow operations may integrate vessels 8” to 24” in diameter
- Larger units typical for in-field dehydration may be 25” to 60” in diameter, and can be 120” diameter or larger
DESICCANT PRESSURE VESSELS MUST BE BUILT TO STRICT ASME STANDARDS
ASME standards enforce engineering rigor in materials, welding, testing, and inspection.
This reduces the risk of catastrophic failures at the facility and along the pipeline route. Vessels fabricated to ASME standards are designed with corrosion allowances, fatigue life, and cyclic loading in mind. This ensures that the vessel remains safe and operational for decades, even with frequent regenerations and temperature swings.
RDR Has U Stamp (Design/Manufacture), and R Stamp (Repair) Certifications From the American Society of Engineers (ASME).
INDUSTRIES THAT MAY USE DESICCANT DEHYDRATION VESSELS
Like our current project, desiccant dehydration vessels can be used in many phases of natural gas processing, including: use at gas wellheads, compressor stations, or before the gas enters transmission pipelines.
Dehydration vessels can also be used in hydrogen, ethylene or other gas stream purification. There are applications for desiccant vessels at cryogenic, and chemical manufacturing plants and more.
